Hey, know what I drank at the college party yesterday? A smashing thing! A euphorizing, strong yet easy cocktail called “Whiskey Sour“. I’m really fond of collecting cocktail recipes so i came up to the bar tender and checked the ingredients (put it down on a napkin). Here is what it takes to make it (check this online wine store for the whiskey options):

  • 2 or 3 ounces whiskey (can be anything from Barton Blend to Black Bush Irish)
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1/2 or 1 teaspoon superfine sugar
  • 3 or 4 ice cubes
  • 1 orange or lemon slice or peel
  • Maraschino cherry

Mix all ingredients but the fruit slice or peel and cherry in a shaker (make sure you give it a hard shake). Strain into a sour or Delmonico glass and garnish with the fruit and cherry. Heh, just try it you you are guaranteed to love it!

Most Americans would agree that nothing beats a perfectly grilled steak, a tender pork loin or a delicious cut of lamb - especially when paired with just the right glass of full-bodied wine.

Australians also share a genuine passion for barbecuing. While the folks down under are reaching for their “shrimp on the barbie” or their pork, ribs or steak, they also tend to reach for their favorite glass of wine. Quite often, that wine will be a Shiraz, the hallmark grape of Australia. Shiraz, with its rich fruit character, seems perfectly suited to take on any of the big, bold tastes coming off the grill.
